Summer’s here! School’s out! And we’re faced by the perennial question – How do we keep the kids entertained?

Here are four hidden hotspots that offer great local family days out.

Kingswood Heritage Museum – Warmley

William Champion’s 18th century zinc and brass mill, with gardens to explore and fascinating features to discover, such as mysterious grottoes, the echo pond and a huge statue of Neptune. With plenty of interactive exhibits, plus wonderful displays and interesting artefacts, you can learn all about the zinc and brass making process and how William Champion made his fortune – and then lost it all!

Avon Valley Railway – Bitton

Visit the beautifully restored Victorian station at Bitton and take a ride in a heritage carriage behind a restored steam or diesel locomotive. Take a walk along the Bristol & Bath Railway Path and visit the picnic area at Avon Riverside Station to watch steam and diesel trains trundle across the the girder bridge. Avon Valley Railway offers more than a chance to travel back in time to enjoy a train ride from yesteryear. It also offers the opportunity to explore the the river valley it runs through.

Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park – Keynsham

Nature, adventure and education set in beautiful countryside. There is so much to do, a visit to the Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park is guaranteed to keep your children busy. Huge indoor and outdoor adventure play areas will have the kids dropping, climbing, scrambling, swinging and zipping all day long. There is also a whole array of animals to visit on the riverside experience, from the exotic to the familiar, and loads of rides from quad bikes to shire horses.
